Education

GROWTH aims to integrate cutting-edge research techniques with effective educational methods to design a set of novel undergraduate courses in time-domain astronomy. These courses will offer students the opportunity to directly work with data from the GROWTH network of observatories. The tool chest of future astronomers will involve facility with big data, algorithms including machine learning, statistics, and queries from multiple databases. These skills will also translate from astronomy to a wide range of disciplines, and will help prepare students for careers both in academic specialities and in the high-tech sector, where big data and complex quantitative challenges are a hallmark of the new economy. There are four major component to the GROWTH educational initiative.

Outreach

Alonside our activities within the standard framework of formal education, we put equal emphasis on public outreach and engagement of broad sets of audiences with astronomy and science in general. In the coming 4 year of the project, we plan to organize or be part of public talk series, multiple educational initiatives for K-12 students, science fairs and other community events designed to increase interest in and understanding of science and technology. Visit our event pages to find out more and join us at any of these events. We also seek partneships with and accept invitations from education & outreach centers, museums, planetariums and other organizations who are engaged in science outreach.
